Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrain. The courses are typically 4 – 8 kilometres long for athletes between the ages of 15 – 19 years old and include areas of grass and earth, passes through woodlands and open country, and include hills and flat grounds. It is both an individual and a team sport. Runners are judged on individual times and teams get points according to positions ended. Both boys and girls can participate in cross country.
Our top athletes follow specialized programs with professional coaches. Our main objective is to involve learners who do not participate in any sport. Groups of learners will begin by “walking” together and so it sometimes happens that they develop a love for the sport and start competitive participating. For athletes who are more serious about cross country, there are different exercise programmes tailored to suit their needs. On Wednesdays league races take place where we compete against different schools in our zone. The course is determined by the management of cross country. There is also an opportunity to participate in the time trials offered by sport clubs and athletes also participate in road races on Saturdays, organised by different sport clubs.
